Het beeld van een stel muzikanten in een kroeg die de ene na de andere set tunes spelen zal niet onbekend zijn. Vaak worden die tunes ook op een hoog tempo gespeeld. Dat tempo komt niet uit de lucht vallen. Alle tunes zijn ‘danstunes’ en die moeten op een hoog tempo gespeeld worden omdat de dansers anders niet comfortabel hun figuren kunnen dansen.
Dat hoge tempo is een van de grootste struikelblokken voor de beginnende ‘Iers-speler’. Vandaar het idee van een slow sessie. We gaan een aantal tunes in sets spelen op een trager tempo dan gewoonlijk. Dat geeft de mogelijkheid om te ervaren wat het is om in een groter gezelschap te ‘overleven’.

In het PDF-bestand (versie 2.0) staan een aantal sets van jigs, reels, slip jigs, hornpipes en een polka die we tijdens de slow sessie gaan spelen. Als je de vorige versie (1.05) van het sessieboek al hebt geprint kun je dit addendum downloaden. Daarmee kun je alle nieuw toegevoegde tunesets downloaden en printen.

Als je gaat oefenen, oefen dan ook goed de overgang van de ene naar de andere tune.
Ook kun je midi-bestanden downloaden waarmee je thuis kunt oefenen. Die kun je afspelen op je computer en kun je luisteren hoe de tune klinkt. (Het klinkt dan wil een beetje ‘robotachtig’ maar je krijgt in ieder geval een idee.)
